Let’s start with the basics - What exactly are Flex Spending Accounts (FSAs) and Health Savings Accounts (HSAs)?
According to Health.gov, “A Flexible Spending Account (also known as a flexible spending arrangement) is a special account you put money into that you use to pay for certain out-of-pocket health care costs.” This money is not taxed and generally has to be used within the plan year. An HSA, on the other hand, is similar to an FSA but allows funds to accumulate and roll over beyond the plan year.
Who can I use my FSA/HSA money towards?
You can use FSA/HSA funds for your spouse and dependents on your insurance plan.
Can I expense chiropractic care through my FSA or HSA?
Yes! Chiropractic reimbursement is an allowable expense for standard FSAs, HSA, and even HRAs, for you, your spouse, or your dependents. Though there is an important caveat: you can not use these funds for chiropractic purposes if you are using a limited care flexible spending account (LCFSA) or a dependent care flexible spending account (DCFSA). How does the payment process work?
Just like a debit or credit card, you can use your flexible spending card to pay for the chiropractic treatment you received at Healcove at the time of purchase. If needed, we can also provide you with the payment records validating your purchase, should you require any additional documentation.
