Cowles Mountain
This popular hiking spot is home to 3 miles of beautiful wildflowers and panoramic views of San Diego. Known for its beginner-intermediate intensity, it’s a family-friendly hike for all ages. Did we mention it’s dog-friendly too? This hike is the perfect pick-me-up when you, your best friend, and man’s best friend need a little more nature and Vitamin D in your fitness routines.
Convention Center Stairs
Want more of an intense workout? Downtown’s San Diego Convention Center houses its 100 stair grand staircase. Any time of day, you can find runners of all levels walking, jogging, and sprinting up these steps for a great cardio session. Just be wary - stair running requires proper form and technique in order to avoid injury. Recess and jungle gyms aren’t just for kids anymore! The Tecolote Shores Parcourse located in Mission Bay features an open-air gym with pull-up bars, sit-up benches, box jumps, and more. Warm up or cool down with a walk alongside the bay’s biking and jogging path. Cross-training has never looked this good (or fun!).
The Patch
Last but not least is The Patch at Torrey Pines High School. It resembles an obstacle course, logs and all, and is built for those working on dexterity and athletic training. Crabwalk, crawl, and hop through this course where Padres legends Trevor Hoffman and Dave Roberts used to train! It’s the perfect way to spice up your workout whenever it starts feeling monotonous.
